English Camp

English Camp is a community outreach ministry of Evangel Bible Church of Taipei. Students are given an opportunity to participate in an English immersion environment to improve communication skills with native speakers from the United States.

What happens at English Camp?

The EBCT English Camp is an American English immersion environment. The full immersion environment helps students rapidly learn listening and speaking skills. Students are taught to practice expressing their thoughts using English. Each lesson consists of four sections:

  1. Vocabulary, idioms, slang, and pronunciation
  2. Reading comprehension exercise on history and biography
  3. Conversation over quotations and poems
  4. Conversation over a Bible passage

Who are the English Camp teachers?

English Camp teachers are all native English speakers from the United States. Many of our teachers have background in physical sciences and engineering and can assist with technical English pronunciation and vocabulary. Our teachers are volunteers from Eastbay Baptist Church of Berkeley located 3 km from University of California, Berkeley. Many of our teachers hold degrees from UC Berkeley.

When is English Camp?

English Camp is offered twice a year during Summer (June-July) and Winter (December-January). Exact dates will be posted close to the start date for each session. It is okay to drop-in on a single session to find out more. Most lessons are standalone and do not require participation in the previous sessions.

Who may attend English Camp?

Everyone is invited to EBCT English Camp. English Camp is designed for all levels of English conversation. Conversation using technical English for engineering, science, and philosophy may also available for advanced students.

Can children attend English Camp?

Yes, children are invited to attend with parental permission. Special lessons with illustrated Bible storytelling in English are designed with younger children in mind.

What if I am uncomfortable in an English immersion environment?

Many of our teachers are bilingual Mandarin/English speakers who can help you adjust to an immersion environment. Learning English requires lots of practice and learning from mistakes, so don't be afraid!
